In Search Of Patterns Within HBO Boxing Ratings

His departure has rightfully prompted folk to look at his record and what he did wrong. (I think there's been less of an effort to determine what he did right.) The decline of HBO's boxing ratings has been square in the crosshairs. The reason for the decline in those ratings has been blamed on a variety of decisions at the network, and dovetails nicely with some running topics of discussion we have had around these parts for well-nigh years. And I put chalk to chalkboard as best as was possible in a variety of categories that have been cited as what makes a fight garner a lot of viewers. Did the fight feature the best vs. the best? Was it perceived to have action fight potential? Was there some ethnic or regional element the fighters brought to the ring? How many tickets did it sell? Who was the promoter? Were there any other elements that might have helped the ratings, besides those? I'll share the full results at the end of the post, but I was surprised by some of them -- like which fighters appeared in the highest-rated shows most frequently, which promoters were most frequently tied to higher ratings, and a couple pure head-scratchers that showed the ratings game has elements of mystery to it that not even science can solve. Ratings: I limited my study to two and a half years, because frankly, that's plenty. I chose the highest ratings over the period covered; I'm not saying the ratings were high, per se, out of that context -- just highEST. I went with ratings that were reported out there by the folk who often track such things, but I can't promise that these figures are accurate. The Boxing Truth had done a lot of work over the years gathering ratings figures, for instance, only to recently reveal that there had been some confusion about some of those figures. And sometimes, there might have been issues of apples to oranges. These two links compiled the majority of those figures, which jived with figures I saw elsewhere. Why did I choose to study higher ratings? Because I wanted to see the common elements of success. Maybe some day I'll do the same thing with fights that had low ratings, to find common elements of failure. Attendance: There is often a big gap between reported ticket sales and actual ticket sales. For instance, there was a Joseph Agbeko fight not long ago that had an announced audience of more than 11,000, but fewer than 1,000 tickets were actually sold.

Looking for the origin of the surname BRENGETTSY ...

My name is Sandra Pollard-Cavin-Scott and I am a descendent of Catherine Washington-Brengettsy who is my great great grandmother from Wilkinson County, Mississippi. I don’t know much about her and I have a paper copy of a picture of her. She was very fair skinned and had very long hair. I had the honor of meeting some of my relatives at a family reunion and it was the best experience I’ve had. I was very surprise to see that the various shade of color. We were definitely a representation of a rainbow, lol. The name BRENGETTSY really struck an interest with me because they were of the African American decent but the name sounds more Italian. They shared with me that they name was German. I researched the origin but came up with nothing. I also looked on ancestry.com and I found that the first Brengettsy recorded on the census he (Frank BRENGETTSY) was born in Switzerland but the rest of the census states he was from Germany. Below are some of my findings and support from others.

MY POSSIBILITES OF THE ORIGIN OF BRENGETTSY

· It may be of British or Italian origin. British based on sy or cy ending.The Italian has some etymologic support -- there are names with a similar based BRENGHETTO, BRENGETTO, and BRENGHEZZI which sounds very much like the ts and could be an original version of the name, as many immigrants anglicized their names.
· On the 1860 Census the birth of Joseph BRINGETSY was 1823 from Switzerland.
· On the 1870 Census the birth of a Joseph WINGETSEY was 1831 from South Carolina.
· On the 1880 Census the Birth of Joseph BRINGETRY was 1830 from German.
· It could be a Prussian name
· It’s possible the spelling of the name was change. Family members I’ve met so far spell their names BRENGETTSY, BRENGETTSEY, BRENGETTCY, and BRENGETCY

With my findings I am more accepted to the fact that BRENGETTSY is a German (Old Prussian) name more so than an Italian name. Any other possibilities I am very much opened to review.
