City carefully explores RDA option, decides to move forward with process

In a 4 to 1 vote, the Council voted to approve a resolution of the City Council of the City of Ridgecrest declaring its intention to enact an ordinance whereby the city shall elect to comply with and participate in the alternative voluntary Redevelopment Program contained in part 1.9 of Division 24 of the California Health and Safety Code. Though apprehensive, all of the Councilmen except Steven Morgan voted to move forward. The language was altered from: “Whereas, the City, by the adoption of this resolution, does not represent, disclaim, or take any position whatsoever on the issue of the validity of AB 1x 26 or AB 1x27, but rather the City seeks to comply with the Constitution and laws of the State of California, including Part 1.9, in order to preserve the ability of the Agency to continue to operate and thereby benefit the community.

A guardianship only gives the guardian custody of the child and the rights to raise the child as a parent would but does not removes the child from the parents permanently. The parents of the child also must continue to financially support the child when he/she is under guardianship.
