Review board OKs first phase of Shands office park on 39th Avenue
The committee also granted Boos Development Group’s request to postpone to the Aug. 18 meeting a final development plan review for a CVS Pharmacy on the northwest corner of Northwest 23rd Avenue and 43rd Street.
The Shands medical office park is planned for the former Clay Electric Cooperative offices at 8616 NW 39th Ave. Alachua County commissioners previously approved a preliminary development plan for the entire 20-acre park. Plans call for four buildings totaling 349,999 square feet and two parking garages.
Thursday’s decision was to approve a final development plan for Phase 1 consisting of one 112,000-square-foot, four-story building. It next goes to county commissioners for final approval.
The second phase would include a second building and the first parking garage.
According to the county staff report, Shands has tentative plans to relocate many of its leased medical offices to the second building in about two years.
A Shands facilities coordinator could not be reached by press time.
The Tioga building would include 13,890 square feet of first-floor commercial space and 18 apartments on the second and third floors, similar to two existing buildings nearby. It would be on the southeast corner of a traffic circle south of the retail buildings facing Newberry Road.
The committee approved the preliminary development plan. Tioga has a year to submit a final plan.

Beyond the obvious good listener golden rules which we have all learned countless times in professional development workshops– you know the ones I mean: don’t interrupt, repeat for clarity, listen for meaning below the words– I want to focus here on some less conventional ways for us to simply get back to appreciating what it means to be able to hear the world around us.
When we listen consciously and with intention to the world around us we get to live more fully. And as a nice bonus, we’ll have better and more productive conversations as well.
So here are just a couple of practices you might include in your life to dynamically grow your ability to hear more. They come from a man named Julian Treasure who has written a book called Sound Business and whose Ted Talk on the subject of the impact of sound is fantastic.
